MEGA CRANES CANADA BECOMES EXCLUSIVE DEALER FOR WORLD'S THIRD LARGEST MANUFACTURER OF CRANES

Whistler, BC - FMgru, the world's third largest manufacturer of tower cranes, has announced that Vancouver-based Mega Cranes Ltd. will become its exclusive sales agent for Canada in introducing the European self-erect crane and tower crane to the North American market.

The announcement was made during the Crane Rental Association of Canada meeting. The annual event was held in Whistler, BC, with attendees from around the globe, including two representatives from FMgru.

“We are very excited to have Mega Cranes representing us here,” says Luciano Conti, Export Manager for FMgru. “We see North America as our next market with the potential to be worth over $2 billion.”

Kerry Hawley, Managing Director of Operations for Mega Cranes, agrees there is a large market, particularly for the self-erect cranes in North America. “In Europe, the value of the self-erect tower crane is well recognized, and they are in abundance,” says Hawley. “The introduction of these cranes in North America will increase productivity and efficiency of construction sites coast to coast.”

The North American market has different construction requirements than Europe, and the self-erect cranes have been redesigned to accommodate these differences. “The reclassified "N" series 35-meter self-erect crane includes new road axles with air-suspension for North American road restrictions,” says Flavio Sgorbati, Chief Engineer of FMgru. “New hoist and trolley packages and galvanized jib assemblies have been added to accommodate the heavier construction sites found in North America.”

The first shipment of 35-meter cranes from FMgru are set to arrive at the Vancouver depot in June for distribution by Mega. Shipments to Mega's Toronto and Calgary depots are due to arrive shortly thereafter.

The Mega Group is a privately held company that has been serving the construction industry for over 20 years with the rental and sales of mobile cranes. With two offices in Toronto and Vancouver, Mega is one of the largest crane rental company's in BC.

FMgru was established in the 1920s and began manufacturing cranes in 1963. They currently have a network of over 90 branches and dealers worldwide. FMgru produces self-erect and tower cranes with capacities of up to 900 metric tons. They currently have over 21,000 cranes in service.
