FM TOWERS GIVE CANADIAN CONSTRUCTION THE EDGE

Published on CRANES TODAY magazine, July 2009

A pair of FM Gru TCK 2560 tower cranes have helped put the City Point construction project in Vancouver, Canada, four months ahead of schedule.

Self-erecting crane

City Point features two towers designed by Raymond Letkeman Architects with interiors by Portico Design Group. The developer is Century Group.

The cranes were erected with freestanding heights of 51m and 57m, and have now been jacked twice to a height of 96m and 80m respectively. Lifting capacity is 3.5t at the end of the 50m jibs, which are extendable to 65m. Both cranes are equipped with high-speed V100.100 winches that give maximum hook speeds of 112m/min on two part lines.

The cranes were supplied by the tower crane division of Vancouver's Mega Cranes, the exclusive dealer for FM Gru in North America.

"In the 38 years I've been working as a supervisor, this is the fastest concrete job I've ever seen, which will put the project four months ahead of schedule," said Henry Friesen, City Point project supervisor.
